A Bollywood disco song from 1982 has been quietly running through global club culture for four decades, and most of us never traced the thread. “Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja,” composed by Bappi Lahiri and sung by Parvati Khan for the film Disco Dancer, was a hit in India in 1982. Then it left the country and kept going. When Disco Dancer reached the Soviet Union in 1984, it became the year’s top film at the box office, with an estimated 120 million tickets sold, as Homegrown and others have reported.
