Prine recorded “When I Get to Heaven” with producer Dave Cobb, who shared, “there are few people on the planet with his command of a pen, so my concept with him was just to get out of the way of his lyrics.” A party of devoted fans who became friends and three generations of his family joined in on the production, singing along in the background at Nashville’s historic Studio A. “He came up to me and said, ‘You know what this song needs?’ Cobb recalled with Uncut Magazine “‘Kazoos’! In 1976, John famously performed on @nbcsnl for the first and only time following an unexpected cancellation by the Beach Boys. This was all made possible by John Belushi, who was a massive fan and constantly threw his name in the hat: “Ya gotta get John Prine” #johnprine #snl #johnbelushi

@bonnieraittofficial and John Prine shared one of the most loyal and long-lasting friendships in American roots music. They met in the early 70s and their bond solidified in 1971 when Bonnie recorded a legendary cover of Prine’s “Angel from Montgomery” for her album Streetlights. Her passionate interpretation brought the song to a massive global audience, becoming an anthem for both artists and establishing a lifelong creative partnership. “The first time I heard his album, I picked that song ou

And they’d give Reader’s Digest subscriptions to anybody. If you didn’t write back and say ‘No I don’t want it’ you’d join the Columb

“I wasn’t the type to heckle, but I’d had a few beers and wasn’t really impressed with what I was hearing and said so under my breath. They looked at me, looked at each other, looked at me again… seemed like an eternity and, finally, they started applauding. The owner of the club came up afterwards and offered
