This one of my favorite recipes I’ve ever developed: Stuffing Cornbread. Instead of baking cornbread just to let it dry out then mix with aromatics to make my Thanksgiving dressing, I bake all the aromatics into the cornbread from the start. It streamlines the process so that’s one less thing to deal with on the day of the holiday. For @testkitchen’s Rice Krispies Treats week, I developed these savory Sesame Scallion Rice Krispies Treats. They’re packed with umami flavor thanks to scallions, toasted sesame oil, and black sesame seeds. Once cooled and cut, I wrap them in a sheet of nori to accentuate that savory flavor and so they look like their inspiration: onigiri! My latest recipe for @testkitchen is my Diner-Style Cream Cheese Pastry, an ode to my favorite dish at Jongewaard’s Bake n Broil in Long Beach. A smooth cream cheese custard fills two layers of soft milk dough, bakes up til just golden, then gets covered in a powdered sugar glaze. It’s a decadent treat for the weekend when you have lots of people to feed, or for a breakfast/brunch party. Think cinnamon rolls but much easier. Head to the link in bio for the recipe!

My latest recipe for @testkitchen is my Citrus-Braised Lamb. Inspired by a Prune recipe from Gabrielle Hamilton mixed with a fruity Filipino adobo, I braised lamb shoulder in tons of whole orange wedges, red onions, and other bold aromatics. The sweet-bitter oranges, acidic vinegar, and sweet honey balance the gentle gaminess of lamb as it braises until fall-apart-tender for hours in the oven. Head to my link in bio for the full recipe!

Yesterday afternoon, I said goodbye to my best (non-human) friend. Sophie was 14 years old and battling cancer, asthma, anemia, and arthritis - all of which hit her in just the past three months. We got the diagnosis three weeks ago, and in the past two weeks, she had stopped eating and retreated to staying under our bed all day and night. Up on @latimesfood today are my three new dips you should make for the Super Bowl next Sunday (or for anytime you have a party because who needs an occasion to eat dip??) First is my Fried Onion-Chili Crisp Dip. Wrote about “wild” grapes for @latimesfood and how the Thomcords out here in CA remind me of the muscadines and scuppernongs of my youth in the South, and of course, the Concords back east.
